City Air

The DPW Weekly Challenge (see reference photo for this one here) is sometimes a good way to get motivated, especially when think I can bring something a a little different to the table. IMO, the background buildings need to be both lighter and cooler. I also thought the man was a little too close to the corner and wanted his colors to integrate more with the rest of the painting.*
Having done only one other cityscape as a painting (rather than illustration) and with simplifying always being a challenge, I knew when I started this might not go well. I won't lie: a few hours in, I was ready to throw in the towel. It took an absurd length of time, but I made myself finish despite numerous frustrations.

*When Hatfield scanned my recent work on the iPad a few weeks ago, his comment was, "Still too much separation of colors." I get that--I do. I was doing better when I was painting more. Need to get back in the zone and keep working on it.
